...and the reason I haven't posted is cos I have nothing to say! Life is bloody good - all my boxes are ticked, and I couldn't ask for anything more! Except perhaps for my university essay to write itself ;) |

| | Still Aerosmith :) I touched him! I touched him!!! | ] | Aside from an unbelievably awesome day, a fantastic gig and great reminisc-age with an old friend from school....
I GOT TO SHAKE STEVEN TYLER'S HAND!!!
That's right folks, a case of being in the right place at the right time, we strolled past the swanky hotel that Aerosmith happened to be staying in at the EXACT moment that Steven Tyler emerged and walked to his limo. En route I managed to get a photo, shake his hand and urge him never to stop singing!
WHO WANTS TO TOUCH ME?!!!
My life is now fulfilled :D |

| | Course of Nature - Caught In the Sun | ] | 16:20 Set off for Temple Meads
16:50 Collect ticket from Fast Ticket Machine
17:00 Train leaves Bristol
18:45 Train arrives at London Paddington
19:00 Walk from Tottenham Court Road tube station to the Astoria
19:03 Make friends with nice man in queue who lets me join his group
19:05 Put bag in cloakroom
19:07 Visit the Ladies
19:10 Get as far forward as I can
19:30 Waiting
19:50 Waiting
20:10 Waiting
20:30 Support band. They are the epitome of shit, so enduring them is worse than just waiting.
20:55 Thankfully support band leaves the stage.
21:10 Waiting
21:20 More waiting
21:30 Waiting. Begin to wonder if all this is worth it.
21:45 Waiting. Start planning this rant out in words in my head.
21:47 Waiting. Start panicking because I will have to leave in under an hour to catch the train back.
21:50 30 Seconds To Mars appear. It takes me two songs to get through the five rows of adoring little children clutching red roses and take my (rightful) place at the barrier.
22:15 Jared Leto tells us we're the best gig so far. I don't believe him but it still makes me smile.
22:25 Jared Leto asks us to teach him "one of those football chants". After a few minutes of unintelligible shouting, we agree to settle on "Football's Coming Home" and he tells us it's the most beautiful thing he's heard. Again, I don't believe him, but it feels good.
22:35 Jared Leto asks for the lights to be turned on so he can "see all the crazy motherfuckers". He gets a twelve-year-old kid to come onto the stage and start the next song.
22:45 I really should get back to Paddington. But it's the last song, and I'm just able to catch the guitarist's pick before scarpering back to get the last train home.
02:10 Sleep.
Yeah, so waiting around, tired and bored for ages is all part of the gig experience. As long as they rock as hard as 30 seconds did last night, they're forgiven :) |

| | Paradise Lost - Hallowed Land | ] | Can't believe July's gone already. Nothing much to show for my efforts this month, except that Club UK is back up and rocking with Ground Zero and we fucking own the place once again.
Harbour festival was damn brilliant, to quote a text message I received that night: "Tonight reminded me that it's great to be alive, especially in Bristol. I've walked home with a smile on my face. I don't care if I live in halls for another month, as long as there's free live music and beautiful people." Amen brother. Thanks to all who were there to share the joy :) |

| | 36 Crazyfists - The City Ignites | ] | Friends are a funny thing. I have maintained for as long as I can remember that I need nothing and no-one, but of course I'm aware that it's just a sense of denial talking. I am loyal and dedicated to my friends and would do anything for them (you know who you are). I like to think I ask for little in return, just tolerance and acceptance of me as I am, and of course the stamina to join me on a dancefloor all night. And the truest friendships are the ones that don't require any effort to maintain, because losing that bond is unthinkable. It's when friends surprise you, by being there when you need it and least expect them to, that they really prove themselves. And it's when you realize you've been fighting and fighting to keep a friendship, but there's nothing coming at you from the other end, that you realize there's nothing worth fighting for. So you cease your efforts, to see that that friendship is fading fast. It's a damn shame, like so many other things in life, that some people just don't have what it takes. |

| | i-DEF-i (my signed copy!) | ] | Well thank fuck for that... I currently find myself in Reading, with the folks, and had the immense good fortune to be invited to see i-(DEF)-i at what used the be the TUC, now apparently called the Face Club, a notorious metal club in Reading central. The band were lovely blokes, the music was impressive - I command everybody to pick up a copy of their EP "Bloodlust Casualty" - it contains all the right ingredients, with the best hints of 36CF, Mudvayne and Stone Sour. We stayed on for the club night, and it was really interesting to note that the same communities exist anywhere: the dragon metal warriors, the sluts in their bras and miniskirts, the cyber goths with glow sticks plastered all over them, the wannabe-metallers who are indie at heart... even some fetishers clad in Spank and corsets and feathers! Was particularly impressed with a sequence of Rammstein/Marilyn Manson/NIN/Rob Zombie... and unashamedly danced to Killing In The Name of, Bodies and Teen Spirit (I was with friends who didn't know any better :P) At any rate, it'll tide me over until My Ruin on Tuesday.
In other news, me and my car conquered the M25 and the M3 - Tunbridge Wells was lovely, and Caz's house is beautiful, as is Mr. Wellington the cat! Mum became hilariously excited while watching Bagdadis the Cypriot get to the semi-finals at Wimbledon... she now tells everybody and anybody the story of how his poor parents borrowed to send him away aged 13 to train in France... good on the lad I say! And although I KNOW it's bad and wrong because he looks like a monkey... I just can't help but find Rafael Nadal attractive. Maybe it's the manly grunting, who knows?! :P |

Packing up and moving out so am surrounded by cardboard boxes... it's crazy how much random stuff one accumulates over the years.
Final week of the course has been full of partying and drunken barbecues which has been fabulous, if slightly soured by the pointless antics of a rather pissed off individual. True friends have shown themselves and I have stood my ground. For all my "peace and love" vibes, I can play nasty too if need be, it's just that I'd rather not waste my energy and stoop to that level. |

| | Live - Deep Enough | ] | My gig fest has finally come to its end :( Seeing Alter Bridge with a smidgeon of Shinedown and Live shortly followed by Mesh with Download sandwiched in between has just reaffirmed my belief that Music is Life.
I made myself a rather special CD compilation with the aforementioned Live, Mesh and some Flyleaf thrown in (still waiting to be convinced that she's not the next Avril Lavigne, but "Cassie" still touches me) - and have been driving round the streets of Bristol playing it very loudly in my new and shiny Peugeot! Dunno if I'm gonna go as far as naming it, but it's a lovely shade of metallic blue, and Cazz, that IS the most defining feature of a car! If you have ever given me a lift (or many lifts) to and from my various favourite places, I am at your beck and call to return the favour!
Two weeks to go until total freedom... Here comes summer!! |
